Euro 2011 represents itself in Berlin

At the well-attended press conference in Berlin on the 31st of January 2011 UEG-president Georges Guelzec (France), President of the German Gymnastics Federation Rainer Brechtken, Berlin´s Senator for Sport Dr. Ehrhart Körting as well as the head coach of the German Gymnastics Federation Andreas Hirsch and the artistic gymnast Brian Gladow were on hand to answer questions.

31st January 2011. "Together with the hosts we are looking forward to the European Championships of Artistic Gymnastics in April in Berlin and after our stay here we are certain that we will experience excellent European Championships", so the UEG President Georges Guelzec (France) stated today at the press conference in the capital. With him were Rainer Brechtken President German Gymnastics Federation, Berlin's Senator for Sport Ehrhart Körting  as well as head coach of the German Gymnastics Federation Andreas Hirsch and were on hand for questions at the well-attended press conference.
At the European Championships Artistic Gymnastics in Berlin from the 4th until the 10th of April 2011 a total of 281 artistic gymnasts from 39 countries will compete on the gymnastic apparatuses. In the singles of the European Championships of the men and women in the Max-Schmeling-Halle 12 sets of medals are awarded, two each in the all-around in each case and 4 respectively 6 in the apparatus-finals. The European Championships are under the patronage of Angela Merkel.

A delegation of the European Union of Gymnastics UEG under the leadership of their President Georges Guelzec (France) met with the Organising Committee of the EC Artistic Gymnastics in Berlin last week-end. They informed themselves about the state of preparation and drew the starting gymnastic equipment and the subdivisions for the EC. Furthermore the Technical Committees of the  UEG for the women and the men respectively met in Berlin.

Who will represent the German Gymnastics Federation in the title match will be decided in the following weeks. The male artistic gymnasts, who will participate in the Berlin competition without titleholder Fabian Hambüchen, and the female artistic gymnasts have to contest in several qualifying competitions. The deadline for registration by name for the EC is on the 17th of March 2011.
Two months prior to the European Title matches in the capital, the two final days of the competition on Saturday the 9th of April and Sunday the 10th of April each with 5,000 tickets have nearly been sold out. For the two final days of the Championships All Around on Friday the 8th of April and for the two days of qualification on the 6th and 7th of April, there are still sufficient tickets available.

Completely without a ticket, fans can visit the Artistics-Medals-Plaza in the Sony Center on the three final days: every evening the medals are presented, there are show programs, live music and even during the day time there are offers all about artistic gymnastics to participate in and to spectate. From the 7th until the 10th of April, the EC CHAMPIONS CLUB invites every evening to celebrate in the “Kulturbrauerei” near the Max-Schmeling-Halle.

The ARD is the host broadcaster of the European Championships Artistic Gymnastics. The event is supported by the federal state of Berlin, the Federal Ministry of the Interior as well as numerous partners and sponsors. The DKB became the most recent Premium partner of the EC last week-end.
