06.04.2011 19:22

The ladies finalists were determined during the four qualifying rounds today. German ladies made it to five finals - a satisfying result.

Elisabeth Seitz finished fourth in the qualification and is in the best position to medal in the all around final. Additionally, she reached the vault and uneven bars final. Oksana Chusovitina hopes for a medal in the vault final and Kim Bui made it to the uneven bars final. Unfortunately, Nadine Jarosch didn’t make it to the all around final. She’s the second alternate.

Uneven bars World and European Champion Elisabeth Tweddle delivered an “air show” at her favorite apparatus. After a moment of shock at the beginning of her routine – she almost fell over from her handstand – she recovered well and delivered a flawless routine. 15.550 points were her reward. She also showed the most difficult element on the floor – a stooped double twist and earned 13,850 points.

23-year-old Ariella Kaeslin (SUI) showed a somersault with 1,5 twists out of a handspring at vault and received 14,775 points. Her second vault was a Yurchenko with full twist and that added up to 14,200 points. Giulia Steingruber, also from Switzerland, was able to trump that though and earned a respectable 14,525 points.
Elisabeth Seitz and Oksana Chusovitina showed their routines in the third rotation, as did favorite Aliya Mustafina (RUS).
Elisabeth Seitz started with her vault. Her first vault, a Yurchenko with double twist was rewarded with 14,675 points. Her second vault, a forward stooped somersault with a half turn, out of a handspring, earned her 13,675 points – and that added up to 14.175.

The Grand Dame, Oksana Chusovitina, stepped out of her handspring somersault with a full twist. She got 14,150 points for that. Her second vault, a Tsukahara with 1,5 turn was much better and she received 14.250 points for that.

17-year-old Elisabeth Seitz delivered at the uneven bars as well: Def, Hindorff and Jäger somersault as well as the Tsukahara-dismount worked perfectly. The judges awarded her with 14.475 point and the audience cheered enthusiastically.
Beam wasn’t so successful for the German gymnasts. Elisabeth Seitz had two shaky landings after a forward somersault and a double turn. Still, she received 13.050 points. Oksana Chusovitina fell off the beam after her backwards stooped somersault and earned only 12.425 points.

Elisabeth Seitz’ last routine was floor. Her music “Stereo Love” was well received by the audience and being cheered for so enthusiastically, the Mannheim native was able to deliver a routine that earned her 13.650 points. Her all around score are a satisfying 55.850 points.

Defending World Champion Aliya Mustafina lived up to expectations. On the floor she showed an impressive doube twist, 2,5 backwards twist leading straight into a full forward twist and she finished her routine with a triple twist. That was enough to earn her 14,525 points.
Another highlight was Russian Tatiana Nabieva’s uneven bars routine. She showed the straight Tkatchev and all in all her routine was full of difficulties. 15.375 points were her reward. Mustafina was able to top that by a few tenth and earned a score of 15,600 at the uneven bars. She finished her qualifying rounds with a difficult yet securely executed beam routine and got an impressive 59.750 all around score.

Sandra Izbasa (ROU), 2008 floor Olympic Champion, started out well on beam and floor. She got 14,100 points for her beam routine and 14,600 points for the floor. Her two vaults earned her a score of 14,525 each.
Teammate Diana Chelaru was happy too. She earned an all around score of 56,350 points.

16 year old Belgian Julie Croket delivered a very good beam routine and surprised many. The judges awarded her with 14.250 points. Her floor routine was good, too, and she got 13.950 points.
Millousi pushes for the top
The second rotation was dominated by Greek Vasiliki Millousi and Elisabetta Preziosa from Italy.
Gymnasts from France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Ukraine were part of the second rotation. The audience kept cheering.

Italian Elisabetta Preziosa enchanted audience and judges alike with her elegant and original beam routine. She earned 14,375 points and also impressed on the floor – 13,525 points. Unfortunately, she made a mistake at her last apparatus, the uneven bars. She missed the bar after the Jäger somersault and didn’t earn more than 11.625 points.
Teammate Chiara Gandolfi had more luck with the uneven bars. Her double somersault dismount was landed securely and was enough to earn her 13,650 points. In the end, she placed ahead of Preziosa in the all around score with 53.375 points, while her teammate earned 52.825 points.
Vasiliki Millousi from Greece had a good day as well. Her difficult turns and double somersault dismount at the uneven bars earned her 13,775 points. After Philip Boy and Elisabeth Seitz had taken the athlete’s oath and opened the Championships with that, 15-year-old Nadine Jarosch was up first. She made two mistakes on her least favorite apparatus the beam – she had shaky landings after her split somersault and double turn – and then fell off the beam after her sideways somersault. Her following elements were clean and she dismounted with a 2,5 twist. The young girl from Detmold was awarded with a lot of applause and 12,250 points.

The European newcomer had better luck on the floor. Her Tsukahara was landed securely and she showed the double forward twist into a stop and finished her expressive routine with a 2,5 twist. Her planned element score was 5,5 and she received 13,700 points. Her third apparatus, vault, went well, too. Nadine delivered a clean Yurchenko with 1,5 twists and was happy with 14.025 points.

Kim Bui joined Nadine Jarosch at uneven bars. Unfortunately, Nadine made another big mistake and missed the bar after the Gienger somersault. That earned her only 11.625 points. Kim Bui, on the other hand, delivered a clean routine and earned 14,450 points.

Reigning Russian Champion Anna Dementyeva showed a difficult uneven bars routine. She did a leaping turn into the Tkatchev and a straight somersault dismount earned her 14,450 points. Despite some minor insecurities, she earned 14,825 points for her beam routine – her dismount a tripe twist out of a front vault. Her all around score added up to 56,900 points.
