Successful World Championships

The 2010 artistic gymnastics World Championships, which were quite a successful event for the German Gymnastics Federation, ended on Oct. 24th 2010.

Turn-Team im Finale

In the men's team final on Oct. 21st 2010 Germany's men's team, consisting of Philipp Boy, Fabian Hambüchen, Matthias Fahrig, Eugen Spiridonov, Sebastian Krimmer and Thomas Taranu won the bronze medal with 271.252 points behind Japan (273.769) and World Champion China (274.997).

"This was incredible, all our routines were shown nearly optimal, the boys did very well today", said an enthusiastic head coach Andreas Hirsch afterwards. The president of the German Gymnastics Federation, Rainer Brechtken, agreed with that, "to fine-tune the team accordingly, so that they manage to show 18 routines without mistakes, is quite an achievement", mentioned the president.

Silver for Philipp Boy in the all-around final
Only one day later, on Oct. 22nd 2010, Philipp Boy won a senational silver medal in the all-around. The gymnast from Cottbus showed a remarkable performance and reached 90.048 points. In the end only Japan's top gymnast Kohei Uchimura remained ahead of him.

"This is truly unbelievable - I really can't believe it's true", said Philipp Boy after the all-around final. Only one day after winning the team bronze medal he managed to show another great all-around performance. "This is a perfect week for me. Everything went that well like never before for me. I'm 100% happy now", he mentioned cheerfully.

 Strong all-around final for " Eli"                                                                                                 After the men's final followed the women's all-around final. The venue Ahoy Arena was completely sold-out and Elisabeth Seitz presented herself well in front of the 7,000 spectators. With 56.157 points she reached a good 12th place. Russia's Aliya Mustafina won the all-around title with the score of 61.032. After the competition Seitz said: "I am happy about my good ranking but there are always things which I could have done better."

The event finals took place on the weekend, Oct. 23rd and 24th 2010. "Eli" Seitz took part in the uneven bars final on Oct. 23rd and unfortunately had two falls in her routine. "Already before the "Def" I didn't manage to reach the handstand position. Through that I had problems to continue with following flight element", she said afterwards. In the end she reached the 8th place in this final. The World Championship-title went to Beth Tweddle from Great Britain who reached the score of 15.733.

Fabian Hambüchen wins the bronze medal on high bar                                                    The last day of the World Championships in Rotterdam, Oct. 24th 2010, again was quite successful for the German Gymnastics Federation. In a high-quality final on high bar Fabian Hambüchen and Philipp Boy reached the positions three and four. With scores of 15.833 and 15.966 this was a great result for the two gymnasts. In the end only Epke Zonderland from the Netherlands (16.033) and the new World Champion Chenglong Zhang from China (16.166) remained ahead of them.

Also in the final on parallel bars Fabian Hambüchen showed a good performance. With the fourth place he only narrowly missed a medal. "I'm completely satisfied with my performances at these World Championships. Everything went very good and I was fit in the right moment. Now I can celebrate into my birthday which is tomorrow", said Hambüchen.
