Hambüchen and Brinker injured
Bad luck for Fabian Hambüchen: The third-ranked on high-bar at the 2010 World Championships and Team- European Champion 2010 tore his achilles tendon during training.
Only a short while later Germany's women's national team member Anja Brinker suffered from the same injury while she was taking part in a gala in Berlin, in the venue of the 2011 European Championships, on January 23rd 2011.
The 23-year-old Hambüchen injured himself during training on Saturday, January 15th, and unerwent surgery only two days later. A break of serveral months will follow for both gymnasts and through that a participation in the 2011 European Championships in Berlin from April 4th - 10th will not be possible.
Hambüchen himself now mentiones the World Championships in Tokio as his goal for this season. Together with the German men's team he wants to reach the direct qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
