Chancellor Angela Merkel takes over patronage

"The best European gymnastics nations will come to Berlin for the 2011 European Championships in artistic gymnastics. This is a good opportunity to present Germany as a nation which is open and enthusiastic for sports", that is why she "with pleasure took over the patronage for this top event", mentioned the chancellor in a letter to the president of the German Gymnastics Federation Rainer Brechtken, who also is the president of the organising committee for the European Championships. "With the patronage of the chancellor the public recognition of the European Championships in artistic gymnastics 2011 in combination with the success of the German national team will be even higher", explained Brechtken.

Through this the continental championships in Germany's capital (April 4th - 10th 2011) got further prominent support. Already before, Berlin´s major Klaus Wowereit accepted the position as president of the board for the European Championships. The goal of the board is to find partners and support in various aspects for the European Championships.
