A portrait of Maxim Deviatovski

15.12.2010 20:00

Maxim Deviatovski is one of the world's best all-arounders. He became European Champion in 2008 and Vice- World Champion in 2009.

The 26-year-old from Russia competes in the German gymnastics league for the club KTV Straubenhardt. At the end of November 2010 he reached the second place with his team in the German Gymnastics League final. After the Champions Trophy in 2009 this was his second competition in the venue Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin.

And of course he is looking forward to the European Championships next year in the same venue, at which he will try to win the all-around title again. However, he has goals beyond that: "I would really like to become World- and Olympic Champion. So the World Championships next year will be a very important competition for me. I don't kneed many medals. I already have a gold medal from the European Championships and a silver medal from the World Championships. So the World Championship title and an Olympic gold medal now are my big dreams."

A very professional attitude towards gymnastics

"Gymnastic is my profession, with which I earn money and though which I become a known person. And indeed gymnastics brings me joy and self-confidence. When I´m doing something, I want to do it well.
I'm not a show man but rather the opposite kind of person. I have a professional attitude towards my work. I love it to be well prepared and in good shape. The competitions in which I´m taking part is enough for me."

However, this nonetheless is not everything. So the quiet Maxim Deviatovski has planned to see a bit more of Germany´s capital in April 2011. Up to now he hasn´t seen more than the Berlin wall. At the European Championships he wants to see a bit more and is looking forward to be back in Germany in a couple of months.
